Alice Harrison and Susan Hammond collaborated on the Artists’ Guidebook to a New Creative Life.
I, Alice have shown locally, nationally and internationally – have received a number of awards and several grants and am listed in Who’s Who in American Art. I have taught at several art centers and now primarily teach in my home studio.
With all that activity what I love is creating –as multi media artist – putting things together, traditional art materials – collage materials – new and found objects. Since I tend to be prolific – and with concerns about the landfill pile I am creating (and what will my children do with all my stuff?!) I have been working on top of older work – yet another layer.
Having been doing art all my life in one form or another with whatever time and space I have had available – for the past 8 years or so have been art making full time. The years before having been taken up with raising children, work full and part time and running a business.
My collaborating partner, Susan Hammond is a contemporary photographer. Susan has shown her work throughout the United States and has received numerous awards for her photography. Her work is in the permanent collection of a museum in Texas.
This book came to be when Susan and I discussed the fact that we were consistently being questioned about “how to…what do you suggest? We were happy to answer but it was clear that there was a real need for this information to be available beyond our immediate art circles. Susan talked about getting her Masters and then expecting the knock on her door leading her to fame and fortune.
The reality is that we have been through all the steps we talk about in the book. Some have been easily learned and some torturous – but all a learning experience. We are still learning – although the information in the book comes directly from us – we still refer to the book for reminders. We would be happy to hear from others interested in the book, workshops on topics in the book and just to chat.
